Brattleboro 12s sweep, 10s pull even

BRATTLEBORO — Sam Hall threw a two-hit shutout with nine strikeouts as the Brattleboro Little League 12-year-old All-Stars zipped Bennington 4-0 to capture the District 2 title on Thursday evening.

Patrick Gagliardi got Brattleboro on the board with an RBI double in the second inning. Tucker Sargent added to the lead with a clutch solo home run in the fourth inning. Cameron Frost had two hits and scored a run from the leadoff spot. Sam Henry hit a double and scored a run and also made several stellar plays in the field.

Bennington pitcher Landon Davis' curveball was very effective as he used it to get out of innings when there were runners on. He struck out six batters while allowing just four runs. He also had one of Bennington's two hits, a single in the third inning. Colby Granger had the other hit, a single in the first. Dylan Coyne and Nat Greenslet continued to impress on defense.

With the win, Brattleboro advances to the state tournament in Essex Junction. The tournament is set to begin the weekend of July 22.

Brattleboro won Game 4 of the 10-year-old District 2 championship on Thursday at Hogan Field in Bennington, 12-9, to even the series at two games apiece.

Evan Wright had three hits and scored twice for the winners. Harper Cutler had two hits including an RBI double in the first inning to kickstart the offense. Keagan Systo went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and pitched the final two innings in the winning effort. Sam Bogart continued to get on base at a frenetic clip. He got a hit, walked twice, and scored a run. John Satterfield, Hayden Avard, Mason North, and Zach Corbeil also had hits for Brattleboro.

Bennington's team was down early but did not give up. Leadoff hitter Sean Moriarty had two hits and three runs scored. He hit a long triple in the fourth inning that was the first of four two-out runs. Hunter Sherwin continued to star in the series. He scored two runs and hit an RBI single.

After the game, a coin flip determined that the deciding fifth game will be held in Bennington on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Brattleboro's 11-year-old All-Star team will open state tournament play on Saturday at 1 p.m. on the South Main Street field versus the District 4 champion. The Brattleboro team is coached by Chad Gundry, Rich Fagley and Chad Emery, with the players including Nolan Chisholm (Reds), Alex McClelland (A's), Degan Gundry (Giants), James Fagley (Cardinals), Jett Emery (Reds), William Miskovich (Mets), Troy Forkin (Pirates), Jackson Emery (Reds), Brandon Weeks (A's), Karson Elliot (A's), Nick Girard (Pirates), Willem Thurber (Reds) and William Hill (Red Sox).
