BUHS Nordic teams have lofty goals
"This year, the boy's team has a solid group of returning skiers," commented coach Amanda Dixon, referring to the likes of Freitas-Eagan, Evan Koch, Galen Fletcher, Colin Costa-Walsh, Orion Stone and Ty Allembert.
The Colonels are scheduled to debut at Prospect Mountain on Dec. 16 at 11 a.m.
Coach Dixon added, "A trio of freshmen, Henry Thurber, Nolan Holmes, and Sam Freitas-Eagan show great potential and will likely keep things competitive among the boy's team."
Captains Isabella Thurber and Evy Williams will lead a BUHS girls team that has all members back after earning freestyle bronze at the state meet last season. The other strong returnees are Sarah Gallagher, Liz Morse, Elery Loggia, Annie Takacs, Bella Takacs and Angelika Toomey.
"Both the girls and boys teams have a real depth of talent and experience. We aim to vie for individual and team podium spots within the MVL and in the state. It feels really good to be able to have those as attainable goals," Dixon stated.
Isaac Freitas-Eagan competed as part of the New England Team at Junior Nationals in Lake Placid, N.Y., and was on the Vermont Elite Team at Eastern High School Championships in Chittenden last winter. Thurber was also part of the Vermont Elite Team at EHSC.
Koch, Gallagher, Loggia, Morse and Bella Takacs were part of the Vermont Elite Team at the U16 Festival in Farmington, Maine last season.
