BRATTLEBORO — Gwen Murphy continues her exploration of humor and pathos with a series of Wall Dolls in "Come Play With Me: Gwen Murphy Surreal Wall Dolls." Murphy is primarily a found-object artist, recognized as the creator of "Surreal Shoes," an ongoing project. The new textile and clay wall characters clearly reference historic puppetry and illustration. They elicit refrains from classic fantasy fairy-tale illustration, and invite storyline and metaphor with their playfulness. The Wall Dolls will exhibit March 2 through April 2.
There will be a reception for the artist on Friday, March 2, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., accompanied by the Moondogs. At Gallery in the Woods, 145 Main St. For more information, visit galleryinthewoods.com or call 802-257-4777. The gallery is open daily from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
