Draa Hobbs and John Stowell jazz up Guilford
Hobbs needs no introduction in our area and Stowell is an internationally recognized performer, composer, author and lecturer. Born in New York and later making his home in Portland, Ore., Stowell formed a duo with bassist David Friesen in 1976 and the two recorded and toured prolifically for many years in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Australia. Stowell's "Through the Listening Glass" with Friesen was chosen Best Jazz Albums of the Decade by the Los Angeles Examiner; he was chosen as a Talent Deserving Wider Recognition by Down Beat 's International Critic's Poll in 1978 and 1979.
On this side of the country, Hobbs and Stowell have been refining their interactive musical conversations for about a decade. Their shared musical values are practiced in the context of some well known standards, bossa novas and some modern jazz composers.
