Elks Student of the Month: Martin recognized for academics, volunteer work

Posted
WESTMINSTER — Tehya Martin has been named the March Elks Student of the Month for Bellows Falls Union High School. Martin, a senior, is the daughter of Shamus Martin and April DeSoto of Saxtons River.

Martin is a conscientious student who comes to school every day and works to do well in her classes. She splits her academic day between BFUHS and the River Valley Technical Center where she is enrolled in the Audio/Video Production class. Always willing to put in extra work and time to do well, she asks insightful, clarifying questions to make sure she knows exactly what she needs to do for every assignment and/ or project that is assigned.

Martin's friendly, positive attitude makes her a pleasure to work with and an asset to any group. She willingly takes the lead in class discussions, and she openly listens to and accepts the opinions of others. As a class leader, Martin serves as a good role model who is always willing to help. She is fully engaged in her classes, and works hard to encourage her classmates.

Martin is an active member of the BFUHS yearbook and has worked diligently to make sure the 2017 yearbook has as many pictures and information as possible. She is an active participant in the meetings and follows through to make sure things get done.

Not only has Martin gotten involved in her academics and school activities, but she has served her community as well. She is currently volunteering to help with a local read-a-thon which will happen later this month. She also has a job and speaks often about the benefits of getting work experience before graduating high school.
