Plant-based diet workshops held Thursdays

If you are new to plant-based eating, struggling to make the change or need a review, come to MamaSezz's introductory class where you'll get key information, great ideas, and new resources for a whole food, plant-based lifestyle. Plant-Based Eating 101 will be held Thursdays, Aug. 3 through 24; take one class or take them all. Community memorial service set for Sept. 7

A brief community memorial service will take place on Thursday, Sept. 7 from 5:30 to 6 p.m. at the Hospice Memorial Garden located at Living Memorial Park.

The short program will consist of brief reflections on grief and loss, an opportunity to decorate a memorial stone to place in the garden or take home, and some quiet time to enjoy the beauty of the garden. Everyone is invited to this free event.

The facilitator is Connie Baxter, Brattleboro Area Hospice Bereavement Program Coordinator.

The garden is located on Guilford Street, on the hillside adjacent to the road, directly across from No. 150 Guilford St. If you're uncertain if the event is taking place because of weather, call the office at 802-257-0775 and speak to Connie at ext. 104 or Joyce at ext. 105.

Blood donor day set for Tuesday

The next local blood donor day is scheduled for Aug. 8 in Brattleboro from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, 54 Chickering Drive.

To schedule an appointment to donate, use the Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800- RED CROSS (1-800- 733-2767). Donation appointments and completion of a RapidPass online health history questionnaire are encouraged to help reduce the time it takes to donate.

As a special thank you, those who come out to give blood or platelets with the Red Cross July 26 through Aug. 31 will be emailed a $5 Target eGiftCard.

$25 sports physicals at Clear Choice

As the new school year quickly approaches, it's time to think about school and sports physicals. ClearChoiceMD Urgent Care, located at 1154 Putney Rd. in Brattleboro, is offering $25 sports and school physicals from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week. No appointments are needed, just walk in. In support of local community education, ClearChoiceMD will donate $15 for each sports and school physical conducted now through Sept. 15. Donations will be made to the school

noted by the student or parent of student at the time of service.

Grace Cottage Hospital Fair Day set for Saturday

Don't miss the 67th Annual Grace Cottage Hospital Fair Day, to be held on the Townshend Common on Saturday. This all-day, family-friendly event starts at 9 a.m.

Voted a Top 10 Summer Event by the Vermont Chamber of Commerce, Grace Cottage's Hospital Fair Day has also been called "New England at its finest" by the Boston Globe.

This annual fair features activities to please the whole family: a birthday parade with dancing stork and bagpipes (10 a.m.), live all-day auction, bargain booths (housewares, books, plants, jewelry, and more), bingo, pony rides, face painting, lots of food, an arts and crafts show (held in the Townshend Church), free circus entertainment, live music, kids games, kids costumes, raffles, and more — plenty of fun for all ages.

Hospital Fair Day is organized by the Grace Cottage Hospital Auxiliary, and all proceeds benefit the hospital. There is no admission fee and parking is free.

Free estate planning seminar on Aug. 23

A free Estate Planning Seminar will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 23 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Community Dining Room at Grace Cottage Hospital. Sponsored by Grace Cottage Hospital and The Newfane Congregational Church, this seminar is appropriate for anyone of any age who is preparing for the future.

Presenters include Joseph Cook, partner, and Amelia Darrow, associate attorney in the firm of Corum Mabie Cook Prodan Angell & Secrest in Brattleboro; Travis Shine, Financial Advisor with Goodwin, Shine and Associates in Brattleboro; Claire Bemis, Registered Nurse with Grace Cottage's Community Health Team; and Andrea Seaton, Executive Director of Grace Cottage Foundation. Topics will include an overview of estate planning documents; fixed-income vehicles and asset preservation; probate avoidance and beneficiary designations asset transfer and common misconceptions; the importance of Advance Directives for healthcare; and income through charitable giving. Refreshments will be served, and there will be time for questions and answers during the presentations.
