Letter: An open letter to Senator Sanders

We are seventh graders at The Monadnock Waldorf School in Keene, N.H. We are writing to you because we are concerned that the Trump Administration is not making equality, ethics, and environmental protection their top priority for the people of this country.

We are especially worried about equal rights. We are concerned that the rights of the LGBTQ community will not be respected. We fear that relations with this community will get much worse, instead of better, during Donald Trump's presidency.

We hope that women will always have the ability to make decisions regarding their bodies.

Also, we are concerned about the growing number of hate crimes in the country that threaten immigrant communities and religious groups.

Furthermore, we are disturbed by the ongoing reports of voter suppression especially in battleground states and now in other countries in Europe. We believe that everyone deserves the right to vote in a fair election. The Russian interference in the recent election is also a worrisome matter. Trump and his administration should not go unpunished if they are found guilty of communicating with the Kremlin during the 2016 presidential election.

Finally, we think more should be done about pollution and climate change. We hope that more bills can be passed protecting the natural wonders of this country and of the world. We feel strongly that the Paris Climate Deal should be maintained and that the United States should continue to strengthen its work within our country and with other countries in order to address global warming and its destruction of the natural world.

We hope that you and the Democratic Party will address these matters to the greatest extent possible.

Luca Maes, Tavi Maes and Ella Bogdonoff,

Monadnock Waldorf School, Keene, N.H., May 10
