Letter: There's an ordinance for that

Editor of the Reformer:

I am writing in response to the letter from Alice Muise concerning pet owners in the village of Newfane not picking up after their dogs. The Village Trustees are aware of the problem and urge residents to report offending dog owners to the town's animal control officer. Not picking up after one's dog is a violation of the town dog ordinance, and that ordinance provides the authority for enforcement and fines. If talking to the offending neighbor doesn't work, reporting the violator is the only way to resolve the situation. It's a shame when our fellow neighbors don't act neighborly, but that's why the ordinance exists.

Chris Campany,

Chairman, Newfane Village Trustees, March 16
