Second Alarm Fire on Oxbow Road: Six departments respond to snuff flames

HINSDALE — Six local fire departments responded Friday night at 7:28 p.m. to a house on Oxbow Road for a second alarm fire.

The fire started in the back corner bedroom, Hinsdale Fire Chief Terry Zevoro said. He couldn't determine the cause until the smoke had cleared out. No one was smoking in the house, which is located at 280 Oxbow Road, Zevoro said.

"The owner doesn't know what happened," Zevoro said. "He showed up and it was smoking through the roof."

The house is owned by Seth Wiggin, who declined when asked for comment.

Zevoro will examine the A.C. He said it wasn't turned on, but that the AC is in that area of the house. He said the smoke damage was extensive.

Fire departments from Winchester, Guilford, Vt., Northfield, Mass., Brattleboro, Vt., and Chesterfield assisted firefighters from Hinsdale. Rescue Inc. was also on the scene.

Zevoro said that the family would be able to pick up their belongings by tomorrow.
