To the Editor: Good Energy Collective, the organization I work for, would like to invite readers of the Brattleboro Reformer from the towns neighboring the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant site to a series of workshops on nuclear waste management in the U.S.
Workshops will be held on October 20, 21, and 22.
We are looking for a group of approximately 50 community members to sit down and share their experiences living near the site, discuss their hopes for the future of the spent nuclear fuel’s management, and more. Participants who register and attend the workshops will be paid $60 per hour. No knowledge about nuclear energy is necessary, and participants will be invited back for additional subsequent paid workshops that delve deeper into the issues and discussion points raised by the community members who attend.
These workshops are part of a two-year Department of Energy-funded research project to develop a consent-based siting process for the siting of one or more consolidated interim storage facilities for U.S. spent nuclear fuel. Good Energy is replicating these workshops in small towns across the country to draw on a diversity of perspectives in developing this consent-based siting process. But, to be clear, the project is not looking to identify a site for these interim storage facilities.
Any community members who would like to learn more about the project or register their interest in participating in one of the workshops are welcome to at this Google Form link: https://forms.gle/3rUxZrMjrBF7VPqv7
Please feel free to reach out to me, Jasper Gilardi, Community Engagement Lead at Good Energy, at jasper@goodenergycollective.org if you have any questions about the project.
